"Eye Catching" 2010-01-18
By J. D. McGyver
Coming out of the box, the Quinotaur #4338 from Invicta's Russian Diver line leaves quite an impression. With its canteen cap styling, 52mm (a little over 2") stainless steel casing, and large face, this watch impressively makes a statement.

Besides the size, the number one thing that sold me on this watch is its luminous features. A nice green glow highlights the hands, outer ring and numbers. Even the Russian Diver logo, company tag and date box are illuminated. The large numbers definitely stand out. Obviously missing is the second hand.

Encased in this stealthy timepiece is Swiss movement. The side edging offers a nice refined finish. Sadly, the designers totally missed the boat on the black rubber strap. The strap's eye catching roller/barrel inserts are a nice addition but don't make up for the short length. Cosmetically marketed as a diver's watch, I'm sure that serious divers already know better.

The Invicta Quinotaur Russian Divers Watch come nicely packaged and includes a one year manufacturer's warranty, a five year extended warranty application and product ID card. Florida based Invicta sports a very upscale website with customer support numbers and email links. A repair pricing chart and shipping charges are also posted. The shipping charges are eye opening to say the least.

Don't hold your breath when trying to reach Invicta customer service via the toll free telephone number or email. On both tries via telephone the operator answers and transfers me over to customer service. With wait times anywhere between 10 and 15 minutes I got nothing. No music, no nada. Just clicking and dead air. Its been a week waiting for a reply to my inquiry via email. That said, its a given that customer service is not a big priority.

Undoubtedly, the Invicta Quinotaur brings it home nicely. Even without the second hand I'm quite impressed with this watch. Unfortunately the strap drops the overall rating of this gem. The folks at Victa loose major points for outfitting a showstopper with a short watch strap and zero customer service.

"BIG WATCH - small band" 2010-01-16
By E. Treants (Sophia, NC USA)
I never thought I had an exceptionally large wrist, it measures 8 1/2" around (21 cm), but the band is almost too small. I am just able to get the band around my wrist and use the LAST hole in the buckle to fasten it. The band on most watches fits me around the middle setting. This band is also very stiff, but I hope that will change as I wear it. The band is made of rubber so it may not become softer, we'll see. Another minus for the band is that it is too short to fit over a wet suit sleeve or glove.

The watch itself (Invicta Men's Russian Diver Collection Black Watch #4338) is GREAT. The 52 mm size is large, but not massive and feels heavy at first, but soon very comfortable. The date can be changed very easily by using the correct position (2nd click) of the stem. It came with the correct time set, but was a day off (yesterdays date). I usually wear my watches on the inside of my wrist, but that is not as comfortable as usual due to the very large size of the watch. I have been shifting back to front trying to find the best position.

The chain holding the screw down crown [cover] in place is a little irritating, but hopefully that will not last either. If it does, the chain may have to go away.

As far as water resistance and diving go ... I was certified and have been a diver since the mid 60s. I have been on many dives in the many US states, Guam, Hawaii, P.I., Antarctica, etc. and have never had to worry that a watch would die if I went too deep, but that I might before the watch. I have been plenty deep, but believe me 100 meters (328.083 feet) is a lot deeper than any diver, Russian, US, etc., ever wants to go while the watch is exposed.

I would give the watch 5 stars *****, but the small, stiff band only gets one * or two ** at most - so i believe the 3 star *** review is fair.

"Big and Bold..." 2010-01-13
By J. J. Burtch
I had been planning on purchasing a new watch for a while now. I don't normally wear watches, instead I just use a cell phone to get the time. But my new phone has a screen lock that is a bit of a hassle to get unlocked JUST in order to see the time, so I started looking for a watch.

I have seen different Invicta watches on Amazon before and really liked some of them. I didn't know much about them so I started doing some research and found that most people say the quality is very good for the price.

After looking at quite a few of them on the Invicta Store here on Amazon I stumbled across the Russian Diver. I really liked the looks of it as soon as I saw it. Then I saw the size at 52mm and was a bit startled. That's a LOT of watch!!!

I ended up ordering it while it was a Deal of the Day and I'm really happy I did. As usual, shipping was super fast and the packaging was exceptional.

When I opened the watch I was immediately taken by the size of the watch. 52mm as a size seems large when you're using a ruler...but when you actually see the size of this gigantic watch it will probably catch you off guard. Not only is it wide, it's also pretty "deep." What I mean by that is it sticks off of your wrist quite a bit.

The face of it is beautiful. Every detail of it just works. The numbers fit with the face perfectly, the hands fit perfectly, the date fits in wonderfully and doesn't look out of place, and the green surround offsets the black of the watch excellently.

The black metal is awesome. It's shiny and subtle at the same time, which in my opinion is great because you need the color to be slightly subtle on a watch this size.

I've read many opinions on different websites that suggest that the chain for the canteen cover doesn't fit the watch very well, but I disagree. I think the chain does a great job of finishing off the overall aesthetic of the piece. I wouldn't ever think of taking the chain off of mine.

The overall weight of the watch on the wrist is definitely more than I'm used to. Like I said, I don't normally wear watches and when I do they aren't anywhere near as large as this one. The weight takes some getting used to, definitely.

I've only had the watch for a short while, but I've already gotten several compliments on it. It's definitely a piece that draws attention to it. People see you and are instantly drawn to it.

All in all, I'm extremely pleased with the purchase. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Invicta watch, and the 5 year warranty that comes with the timepiece through Amazon is a wonderful addition.

"NO Scuba Diving!" 2010-01-10
By BigBrotherAmazon (The Moon)
What kind of diving do the Rusian military do?! My real diver watch is 1000 feet or 3 times of this so called diver. In fact, here is what even Amazon says about watches of the Russian category:

"Water resistance 100 meters (333 feet): It is wearable around household sinks, while playing sports, and while swimming or poolside diving. It should NOT be worn while scuba diving."

So no scuba diving.

"Large Face" 2010-01-04
By Alvis G. Palmer (Brooklyn NY USA)
Review by Leo, which I based my purchase on is misleading. The watch is heavy and has a large face but guys with big wrists need longer bands not just the big face. Unfortunately this watch does not come with a long enough band to be recommended for guys who have difficulty finding watches with bands that fit out of the box. The band size is of average lenght. I am able to wear it but just barely.
